EVENT POSTPONED

Unfortunately after consulting the Met Office forecasts we have had to make the very tough call of postponing the event.

We felt we had no option but to make an early decision on this to avoid riders that are traveling for the event having unnecessary trips or expenses.
The Starley Sportive is now in its 7th Year (inc its predecessor) and this is the first year that we have had to make this decision. We have to put the safety of riders and volunteers first.

We still want you all to have a fantastic event and although we had considered all alternatives to cancelling, we felt that you all deserved us to reschedule the event in its entirety on the 26th April 2020.
One of the special things about the event is that it is inclusive for riders of all abilities and running a smaller scaled back event would not be right.

All profit from the event will still go to charity, postponing at this time has avoided any more unnecessary costs being incurred that would have reduced the amount raised.

As detailed in the T&C’s when riders signed up, you don’t need to register for the new date. All riders will be automatically transferred to the rearranged event date of 26th April 2020.

If you can’t make it email contact@starleysportive.co.uk, we can then look to give someone else a ride and raise more money for the charities.

You can still sign on & collect your chip timing numbers until the Saturday 15th February 2020 if you would like to.
Ride Cycle Shop, 6 Holbrook Ln, Coventry CV6 4AB*
*Ride are not open on Sundays or Mondays

**If you have already collected your rider number please keep it safe as you will need this for the rescheduled event still !!!**

Thank you to Ride who have offered 15% discount to Starley Sportive riders on everything other than bikes and frames up to the event. So stock up on what you need for the day!

You can still support Paddy’s Plea by ordering a home swab kit!

Paddy Igoe is a 12 years old who lives in Coventry; he has been diagnosed with severe Aplastic Anaemia & needs a bone marrow transplant. There is currently no match worldwide. You can become a blood stem cell donor which could lead to the possibility of becoming a match for Paddy or others in his situation.

If you are aged between 17-55 years old and in general good health then you are eligible. You can order a DIY swab kit head to the Paddys plea website

Thank you for being understanding of this difficult decision.

Refunds

We have had a few requests for refunds due to us having to reschedule the event. We are not a commercial organisation and therefore we ensure that 100% of all entry fees go to charity. Despite support from The Deeley Group and other partners, we have incurred costs to run the postponed event.

This is an event which supports local charities. As noted in our t&c’s that in the unfortunate instance that we have to postpone due to weather refunds would not be provided.

However as a gesture of goodwill we will offer a partial refund to those who request one

Please email contact@starleysportive.co.uk for more details

The Starley Sportive is a cycling event that recognises the contributions of Coventry based inventors John Kemp Starley and James Starley to the cycling industry. What better way to do this than getting as many people as possible out on their bikes. In addition to this the difference with the Starley Sportive is that 100% of the proceeds from the event goes to charity, unlike a lot commercial sportives.

It comprises of three routes: Short (28.6 miles) an accessible ride into the Warwickshire countryside with family appeal, Long (63.2 miles) with undulating roads through Alcester twice with a climb, and Epic(86.5 miles) which extends the Long course to include Dover’s Hill in the Cotswolds.

Last  year we raised £13,021! This made it a record year. We have now raised over £29,500 for local good causes so far from the events! We would encourage you to use the Starley Sportive to raise sponsorship for any good cause or charity that is important to you. Please go to our  Ride For A Good Cause Page for help and advice on thisOnce again we will be donating all our proceeds from the 2020 years event to charities.

“Many thanks for an excellent Sportive today. Very well organised and sign posted, it was interesting to come at familiar roads from a different direction. At £10 it was very good value compared to a commercial sportive !!
Thanks to all involved and to Deeley Group for a magnificent HQ.”

This was our first Sportive, and wow, how it has sparked something in us to achieve more, challenge ourselves and join the 1000’s of other cyclists who enjoy this ‘feel good’ sport. Feeling humble.”
